Description

Take a private guided tour to pyramids and Saqqara and get a unique insight into the culture of the ancient Egyptian civilization from your personal guide. Drive to the famous Giza Pyramids, the most important cultural sites of the Old Kingdom, and marvel at the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. Right next to it is Saqqara, the Memphis cemetery and site of numerous pyramids. Discover who was buried here and admire the step pyramid of Djoser. Accompanied by your personal guide, see the following highlights on your tour:

● Saqqara
The belief in a better life after death gave the cities of the dead far greater importance than any 'city of the living. Three hundred years earlier, the first 'necropolis' of Memphis had arisen in Saqqara and it was here that a brilliant builder named Imhotep had designed the first pyramid.

The traditional graves of the Egyptians were so-called 'mastabas' - rectangular buildings made of adobe bricks, with a flat roof and several rooms. Imhotep put one of these 'mastabas' on top of the other and a six-step 'heavenly ladder' was created. The 69-meter high step pyramid, 119 by 141 meters at the base, was surrounded by walls and temples, which Imhotep once again proved to be an unusually imaginative master builder. The pillars in the entrance temple look like tall plants that seem to be deeply rooted in the ground. Thirteen false doors in the enclosing walls were supposed to open - useless in this world - to the Pharaoh in the next on his way to immortality.

● Memphis
Memphis is considered the oldest metropolis in Egypt and is located 24 km southwest of Cairo. Memphis was once the capital of Egypt and a vast ancient city. Today its ruins are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saqqara in particular, the necropolis of Memphis, has wonderful treasures of ancient Egyptian culture to offer. In Saqqara, the necropolis of Memphis, there are all forms of Egyptian tombs from over 3000 years to marvel at.

● The pyramids of Giza
One of the great wonders of the ancient world that have survived to the present day: The pyramids of Giza.
The great pyramids are among the most fascinating creations of mankind. The pyramid field of Giza consists of the three large pyramids with their mortuary temples and secondary pyramids as well as small official graves, which are called mastabas by the Egyptians because of their shape. Another highlight is the famous Sphinx. The three pyramids, together with the great Sphinx, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The pyramids were created in the 4th dynasty of ancient Egypt, around 2600 to 2500 BC. The three pyramids were considered tombs for the three pharaohs Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinos, after whom the pyramids were also named. Nowadays it is more likely that there were 10,000 Egyptian workers who erected these structures. How the workers transported the 2.5-ton stones and used them to erect the structure remains unclear. However, one thing is certain: the wheel was not yet invented! With the resources they had at that time, it is now clear that the pyramids were built in just 20 years!

The Great Sphinx of Giza is the most famous and largest statue of the Ancient world. The Sphinx represents a graceful lying lion with a human head and was probably built in the 4th Dynasty (approx. 2520 to 2494 BC). The head of the Sphinx is dressed in a Nemes headscarf with a Uraeus cobra.
